De Nora Products Overview

Seawater

The performance of the Seaclor® and Sanilec® line of hypochlorite generators (commercialized by Severn Trent De Nora a De Nora Joint Venture Partner with Seven Trent) is the result of the many years of De Nora’s experience in the design and manufacturie of electrolysers for various electrochemical applications. Sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl), also known as "hypo" or "bleach", is used world-wide and trusted as a superior water disinfectant.

It is a simple and proven technology that converts ordinary sea water, by means ofelectrolysis, into sodium hypochlorite using an electrochemical cell (hypochlorite generator). In practice, sea water is fed through an electrolyser (chlorinator), a low voltage DC current is applied, electrolysis occurs and sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) is generated instantaneously. Applications:
    • INDUSTRIAL
      • Waste water
      • Refinery/Petrochemical/Power plants
      • Food processing
      • Potable Water
    • MARINE
      • Waste water
      • Off shore platforms
      • Potable Water
    • RECREATIONAL
      • Swimming pools

Brine Systems

Similar in operating concept to seawater electrochlorination systems, brine based systems require an additional tank (briner) to mix table salt with water to form a concentrated brine solution.   The concentrated brine solution is then diluted prior to its introduction into the electrochemical cell. De Nora has developed anode coatings that operate at higher efficiency, based on equivalent Cl2 production, and this results in lower operating expenses., a major concern for municipalities and private entities considering on site generation for their disinfection requirements.

Ballast Water

The introduction of aquatic nuisance species into coastal marine and estuarine waters comes from a variety of sources. However, ballast water is currently the most frequently cited source for the worldwide transference of non-indigenous organisms. International agencies such as the International Maritime Organization (IMO), United States Coast Guard (USCG), and U.S. federal and state governments are combating the problem by mandating that ballast water exchange occurs in the open ocean or through the utilization of ballast water treatment systems.

Ballast water exchange is a time consuming, costly, and dangerous operation depending on sea conditions. Severn Trent De Nora, with 25 years experience, is the world leader in the design and manufacture of electrolytic systems to generate biocides (disinfectants) from the halide ions present in seawater, saline, and estuarine waters. Such systems have been installed world wide to provide economical solutions for the control of biofouling in power plants, offshore oil and gas production, and any other application where effective, safe treatment of seawater is required.

Benefits

The patent pending BallPure® system has proven to be an effective, economical and high-capacity device to treat ballast water with no adverse effects on the environment and can be utilized for the following applications:

    • Tug Barges

    • Tankers (any Size)

    • Container Ships

    • Cruise Ships

    • Car Carriers

    • Naval Vessels
